Archives & More in the Heart of England
Cotesbach is a small village at the extreme south of Leicestershire, a few miles from the junction of the M1 and M6 motorways. It is home to Cotesbach Educational Trust, which holds a unique collection of archives relating to the Cotesbach Estate - some dating back over 400 years.
More than 6,000 documents - of local and wider interest - are housed at Cotesbach in a complex of restored historic buildings with a modern extension (see picture). Volunteers are in the process of cataloguing these records, which can be consulted by appointment.
The Trust is a major educational resource centre, whose activities and enthusiasm help a wide range of the community, including school students, to understand more about our heritage.
Events in the Trust's programme that are of particular interest to family historians include Victorian schoolhouse re-enactments, a monthly local history café for local residents over 50 and special activities during May, which is local and community history month. If you live in or can visit the Lutterworth area, why not check out the programme of forthcoming events?
